Help -uploading an image to the gallery

Sorry there is always one who doesn't get it (\besides all the politicians of course) i am trying to post an image to the gallery, say the macro/micro thread whatever it is called. So go into the thread click upload photo and want to obtain one from another website . Did this, put [img] infront and behind link, then submitted. It said post had been successful but cannot see any photo. I think I am trying to post from the wrong part so can you please enlighten this frustrated junior. :( Ta

did you put [/img] . I think it's without the slash at the front and with at the end, hope this helps

Did it Kim and no joy. :( There is no facility like on the temporary site to click [img] or [url] if you need to link it back to the site. It looks like you just have to remember. Also cant preview to see if it works. Guess I must be doing something wrong.

Now this is bizarre as I type it shows [url]infront and behind link but when it comes up on the post the link is not working.

GRRRR having a tantrum now...just tried for the 4th time doing it as you said but no luck. I am posting in the right section I assume where it says upload photo? The set up for uploading photo in the gallery is different from posting in the forum. I guess i will just have to wait.

Sorry Cindy not sure what else to suggest, i don't use flickr, so may be different to photobucket

with flickr, do this

select your picture
in the little grey icons above the ppicture, click the one that says "all sizes"
select the size you want from the bar over the picture
scroll down and copy the URL in box 2
insert in [img] tags in your post :cool:

not sure if this works in the gallery, sorry

if you want to post to the gallery you need to resize to around 700 pixels on the longest side, then save as jpeg, you need to make sure your filesize is less than 110kb. click on upload image and browse to the file on your computer to upload.

Thanks Jeni I gathered that i would have to revert to uploading from my computer ( once I have resized them below 110kb) because your suggestions re flickr was what I tried before and they didn't work.

Oh well I might get something posted on here tonight or I might just go and settle down with a glass of wine and try again tomorrow.

linking to pictures from flickr was just for the temporary forum.

As Jeni said the linking was just for the temp forum, but you can link an image in the comments thread, using a Between the urls

Thanks. Decided to go for uploading resized image from computer. Its a wee bit confusing because the gallery upload suggests either uploading from computer or via a link from another website, hence trying the latter. Linking to the forum is fine its just the gallery.

Did you do it via the upload from a URL? if so did you get a filesize limit warning?

The upload from URL is exactly the same process as uploading from your computer, it takes the image from the external server as a Jpeg file, I think I know what you were trying to do was the same as we had on the temp, by displaying the image but using the external site as the host.

If you are still confused by it give me a nudge and I will help you :D

John, i have just tried what Cindy is trying to do. In the gallery upload I typed in Cindy's URL (not with any tags) and it says "you have successfully uploaded your image & takes you to your gallery. The image isn't there tho :confused:

I just tried Cindy's and it is 110.25 KB which is too large a file size.

Not sure where you are trying to upload to Stef/Cindy

Are you using the 'Retrieve all images from a URL:' section in extra options?

Dummy just uploaded and I assume Dummy to be the lowest ranking user (Ben?)

dummy is just a registered user. on the edit usergroup page in the gallery admin, 2nd one down

Oh wait I see now, yeah that is weird, Ben there seems to be a link missing somewhere between the upload and upload from URL, is there a line of code missing somewhere.

When Dummy uploaded the image 'Nice Beaver' you got all the right stuff coming up. once you process the image it is gone from site.

Any clues mate? just looked but cant find anything that refers to the URL uploads other than in gallery options.
