the hard drive on the laptop seems to be knackered. tried reinstalling windows after it wouldnt load (was asking for system disk) and now were getting disk errors. was planning on taking it on holiday too for storing my photos and as the park has wifi access.

looks like another expense before we go away, typical isnt it!

Before scrapping the HD, just try running the old DOS prog, diskcheck - it cured one of mine that I thought was cream crackered. ;)

how do i do that? windows wont boot up, and cant format with the windows disk as keep getting disk errors.

Bugger.... Won't boot at all? Could be a problem then. I thought you were getting errors after boot-up:(

oh well, new hdd it is then! fingers crossed its that and nothing else, cos i really cant afford anything else to be wrong!

Have you tied to start windows in safe mode? if not then press F8 at start up this will give you the option to boot up in safe mode, this will alow you to back up any files you want to keep, after you have backed up the files you want to keep close the computer down, then restart the computer, when you see the banner for the computer make press ALT and F10 this should take you to the system recovery partition that is usualy hidden on the hard drive, click on full system restore this will restore your computer to the condition it was in when you first used it after taking it out of its box, the way the manufacturers had set it up, this should also re install the windows operating system in full, any probs PM me

thx Harold, but really, the hdd has had it. the computer wont boot full stop. weve tried reinstalling windows with the win xp pro disk and were getting disk errors, the errors are on the hdd, not the win xp pro disk. will probably get the hdd on friday when Cliff is off work. now to find the cheapest 1! (i dont care how big it is, as long as theres room for xp pro. i plan on taking cds with me to back up my photos to!

luckily theres no files on it i want to keep, i only normally use it for browsing the net while im in bed lol. last time i used it was when i did my ankle in!
