i need to lose about a stone. been trying to lose it for the last few months, but havent budged anything yet. my downfall is i get the munchies in the evenings and its too easy to grab something to eat when i make a brew. we can encourage each other!

Jeni my problem is a verrrrry sweet tooth, i went into Morrisons today and it was soo hard coz there were cakes, biscuits and chocolate all around me, well that's how it seemed, but i managed to walk past and I've had no sweet stuff at all today. I lost almost 2 stone last year when i went to Slimming World but unfortunately my sweet tooth got the better of me and I've put most of it back on. I've had to diet for most of my life, but I'm sure if we support each other we can do it and hopefully keep it off
Stef you can do it with me never mind waiting til i've already done it :legal:
Thanks folks, i knew i could rely on you :top:

Gel have fun, I am now down almost 4 stone in 22 weeks, I have a sweet tooth, but I substitute it with jelly, yeah I know its not chocolate, but there is 0 fat in jelly, yes there is sugar, but if you eat loads of spuds too there is plenty of Fibre in spuds to dilute the sugars, chocolate you will struggle with, but the Cadbury chocolate fudge Highlights are sooooo Soothing.
there is 0 fat in jelly, yes there is sugar
wish i had known this sooner! i love jelly! i dont have to buy the sugar free ones do i? i cant stand the taste of artificial sweeteners and also am not too keen on the reported side effects!

Good Luck Gel.
I have shifted a couple of stones just by going out with the camera and not eating between meals.

Well done John and Stewart that's a great achievement :top:
Yes chocolate is my biggest downfall, i loooove Cadburys dairy milk, but once I've got myself into the right frame of mind i can usually go without it, for a while anyway. I will try the Cadburys highlights and the jelly seems a good idea.
Thanks again folks for your advice and support :)

if you don't like the sugar free ones make your own. Get a fruit juice you like and add gelatin as per the direction on the pack. if your using the leaf 2 sheets soaked in cold water for about 20 minutes should give you a nice wobble. good thing about this way of making jelly you can put fruit into the molds or bowls to add a little interest.

well done keep on going. one thing i have learned and this is a hard one to pass on to anyone. You need to drop beer and wine as much as you might love them, swap for vodka lime and soda

Well done Gel. Just one step at a time and you will get there.
The best diets are not thinking about them and changing habits of a life time . If you fancy sweet things go for lots of fresh fruit and yoghurts. Excercise really helps too so pinpoint some high mountains(hills) you want to photograph or long rambles which will help change your metabolism - then you can eat what you want. Smoking is also a good way to keep your weight down but I wouldn't recommend that :D

You can buy sugar free ones but I dont bother, they are 7p from Asda and dont half fill an hole, I dont make them into a big jelly I just eat them, and they fit in the camera bag too :)

Gel, I don't believe it's as difficult as some say. A week before Easter I was 14 stone. I'm now 12 stone which is what I was in my twenties. The first thing is to really think about it before you start. No point in just losing it to prove you can do it. It's a permanent thing. When and only when you're sure that you really want to be slimmer and you'd rather be slimmer than eat naughties, do it. What I did was to stop eating 'manufactured' food, even bread. A good bowl of porridge for breakfast, salad for lunch and a proper normal meat n' three veg for dinner oh and a yogurt for pud.. After a while you'll notice that even lettuce will taste better. Just for an experiment try doing without sugar in your tea, three times in succession. A lady from Crewe told me to try this and after three I've never had sugar since. One more thing, when you feel hungry and your tummy rumbles, remember it means that you're doing it right.
Let us know when you're SURE that you want to start. Take it from me you'll feel so great it will be well worth it. I won't say 'good luck' as it's not a matter of luck.

I agree with everything you say there Ron. what I eat now tastes much better, me and Ange had a treat last night, which turned out to be more disappointment as the Pizza that Ange had and the Kebab I had left a greasy horrible taste. As for manufactured food totally agree, there is nothing like good natural food, if its in a tin it has sugars of some form, if its bread there is more salt and sugar than you could actually dare to want to know.
As you said, you need to want to lose it for a purpose and that purpose is not just that you can do it. :top:

Ron it can be difficult to ignore the craving for the bad stuff, but up to now i haven't given in, I've allowed myself a TREAT just once last week. Having breakfast makes a huge difference, but i'm always hungry by dinner time. Before my diet i would go without breakfast, dinner then just have my tea, but i usually ate rubbish all day, this caused me to put the weight back on. There have been the odd bad days when my craving have been really strong, but I've eaten fruit instead of the rubbish. I also bought myself a bag of Snack a Jacks and coz they are caramel flavour,it stops the cravings. It has helped that my niece is also on a diet, she however sees a dietitian and since i go with her for her appointments i get lots of advice too.
I said i lost 5lb in fact I've lost 8lbs which really surprised me, but it's given me the encouragement to carry on
Again thanks to everyone for your support, i'll keep you posted ;)

good girl :top: i'm proud of you
You're doing just fine Gel, As a treat try some nuts and dried Apricots, I keep them in the biscuit barrel where there used to be biscuits, which really are a no no. My treat today is Strawberries,I've grown so many I'm having difficulty eating them all. I've had them after my porridge, after my baked potato and after dinner in about five minutes.

LOL you'll start looking like a strawberry if you eat any more Ron...don't do nuts afraid, except salted if I'm drunk, which is NEVER LOL. I have been eating a lot of fresh pineapple which is quite sweet and does the job of taking the craving away, you should try it.
Anyway thanks for the support, will keep you posted on my progress :top:

I read somewhere years ago, Gel, that there is some sort of enzyme in pineapple which aids the breakdown of fat in the body--the same is in grapefruit!! I can't scientifically prove this, but i remember it registered in my brain as pineapple is my favourite fruit !! Worth trying to find out maybe??
& well done for all your efforts so far, Gel--you are doing brilliantly!! :top:
