Popped in to Jessops today to buy a 70-300 as my daughter has "borrowed" my old sigma, due to advancing age, onset of alcohol induced shakes etc, decided on the Nikon with VR. Online, £399 (£389 at weekend, failed there) but £419 in the store. Had a chat, asked if they would price match and they said yes.

So I stood there, credit card in hand, smiling happily

However, to price match, they have to order it online as a collect at store, then wait 10 or 15 minutes before they can give it to me???

Why??

As I was hungry, on my lunch break, and holding a particularly tasty sandwich, I decided to leave it and order online when I got home.

I can get the same lens for £369 at amazon. I was willing to pay the extra 30 quid to pick it up there and then, support my local retailer etc, but couldn't, and they wonder why they are having problems???

They have some totally stupid rules.... No wonder they struggle :headbanger:

I wonder..... Does 'order online' mean they don't have to pay the salesman commission?? (no salesman actualy "sold" it to you??)

Whichever way you buy it, you won't regret it. That lens is superb. :top: I have to thank the members on here for advising me to get it. Don't know how I managed without it before. It'll blow the socks of your Sigma. ;)

they have stupid rules they wouldn't even price match a store that was in london that had stock who even with my train fair was £60 cheaper than them they missed out on a £1200 sale. I now have a great relation ship with camera world oxford street and they always give me good advice even tho I have to travel an hour to get to them i wont use anyone else

Because when they order it they are in fact being a customer. They then have to wait for a few minutes for that order to filter through their system so they can physically click various boxes to authorise the sale.

It was the photographs from Stef, Jeni and a couple of others which convinced me to splash out. The Sigma is about 12 years old now and noticeably soft at the long end compared to todays kit. Stefs current PoW is stunning in its clarity for a "consumer" lens.

(just hope I dont have to splash out on a D300s to cathc up  )

Ordered from Amazon, £365, so a saving of £34 to sweeten the deal even more

Ohhh thanks for the nice compliment :D

You will wonder why you didn't buy this lens yonks ago. It's amazing for the £££ & i very rarely use anything else now. My 18-70 is a body cap as my cam doesn't pack in my bag as neatly with the 70-300 on

Look forward to seeing some pics & hearing what you think about it :)

You need a slingshot 300 Stef, fits perfectly with that lens and a battery grip ;)
