Does anyone know how I can prevent my 18-200 lens from zooming out as I walk with the camera around my neck. Is it because of the weight of the glass in it or could it be tightened up a bit?

Ron, this is just a drawback on that particular lens. Technical name = lens creep or zoom creep.
In fact, if you search either of those terms in google, the first results are Nikon 18-200.
As for fixing it, it is not possible. People have talked about using a rubber band round the lens, but i do not bother.
Occasional I would prefer it if it did not do it, but its just become one of those things. The lens is outstanding in every other department, just 1 little drawback im afraid.
So to answer you specifically, No, it cant be tightened up.

Not sure if my new Siggy does this yet, still in its lickle box :o not been out to play yet
Thanks for the info Ben, I do a lot of walking and it's handy to have the camera around my neck but the lens is a problem.I worry about banging it on a style oe gate. After trying several elastic bands I've found one that's just right but it wouldn't look right for a professional, It's one of those that the Postman drops :D

I have a much cheaper version, the Tamron 18-200 and it has a little sliding lock to prevent this. Pity Nikon couldn't have incorporated one on their lens.
