After taking a few shots on the beach and having to clean the tripod feet each time, this idea came to mind.

Salty sand stuck in the threads will corrode the metal and if not cleaned out thoroughly will make an awful mess of the tripod feet by jamming the screw-up spikes/soft feet.

Screw down the soft feet and place a small plastic bag over each foot, holding it in place with a rubber band. It can then be discarded afterwards complete with all the offending sand.

Nice tip on the feet (there's a pun)
