Sometimes in PS using the clone tool or the content aware fill for a large area wont give you the desired results. A much easier way is to copy part of the image, then mask out the edgs of the copied areas to blend it in.

Cindy's picture here http://www.tog247.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=7502&cat=all&limit=all
and the comments it recieved was a good example, so Ive used it as the basis of this tutorial. As your effectively doing it twice.

Open the photo

Duplicate the pic (ctrl/cmd J), then goto image>canvas size... and enlarge the canvas a little

Using the free transfom, enlarge layer 1 to fill the new canvas, turning the eyeball for the other layer off.

Using any selection tool, select an area large enough to cover the object you want to remove.

Press Ctrl/Cmd J to copy the selected area to a new layer.

Use the freetransform on the new layer, move it into place. strech it a bit if neccersary, lower the opacity of the layer while you move it into place to help you. When your happy, add a layer mask (3rd icon from the left at the bottom of the layers pallete), then using a soft black brush on the mask, paint over any hard edges that show through.

Now we'll put the boy back... Turn on the top layer and make a generous selection around him.

Press the mask icon at the bottom of the layers pallete to turn your selection into a mask. then free transfrom the boy into a new place (matching the pillars up). Use a lower opacity again to help.

Now using a black brush paint on the mask again to hide any hard edges.

Wow I am well impressed with the result but would have to get my head around your tutorial when I have some time to spare. I could not follow it automatically, which is more my unfamiliarity with photoshop than your tutorial. Thanks for taking the effort and hope others besides me can benefit from this lesson. :top:
