ok, so tonight im supposed to be doing a talk on HDR at camera club. as usual ive left it until the last minute to sort out what i need. i have some pictures of my own, and a couple i did last night that ive written down all the settings for so i can show how i achieved the effect i wanted. i can also explain what i wanted when i saw the scene and why i went out to purposely shoot it as HDR.

you know me though, i dont do over the top HDR. is there anywhere i can find some examples of this and why it works on that particular subject - im thinking mainly cars? also, does anyone have links to what the sliders in Photomatix actually do. i know the effect they give in the photo, but cant actually put it into words. i tend to fiddle with them until i have the effect that i want.

lastly, keep your fingers crossed for me tonight that i dont mess up lol!

Jen if your camera club is like ours most of the members don't know what a mouse is, then explaining what effect the slider has on the picture will do fine. Just be prepared to answer questions, and if you can't answer it then 'I don't know but I will find out for you for next time always work' as you are being sincere and not giving em duff info. (cos assuming that someone asking does not know will make you like like a berk if they do really)

And good luck and what time is it cos i could really do with listening to you too as my HDR are pants

oh yes, i did Ben, thanks for reminding me!

John, youre welcome to come along lol, first 3 weeks are free...

it seems, with my camera club, that the majority of them use Photoshop more than their cameras. things some say like 'ill use a smaller aperture and give it the blur in Photoshop to make sure i get what i need in focus' and the fact that some members will have about a million different versions of the same picture, all Photoshopped makes me think they know more about Photoshop than their cameras!

I wouldnt say it was amazingly technical, but gives a bit more info than just 'play with the sliders'

'play with the sliders' was going to be the basis of my talk lol. at least now i can give a brief description of what the various sliders do!

Also, don't forget, there is the 'show preview/show original' button which is handy if you are doing a live show. Very impressive if you can show the before & after really quick, or both together with LR.

Well done Jeni - sure that they liked your two pics in particular.

A tip - when speaking and using equipment, ALWAYS go early so that if there are mechanical or electronic failures you have a chance to get it sorted before the punters come - messing about at start time to resolve problems can alienate your audience.

Been there, done that!:headbanger:

Did you use my shot in the end jeni? :)

i was intending to Shaun... but it got complicated - sorry :(

My son told me i could use his laptop, so instead of arranging everything on a memory stick i planned to transfer the files over to his computer. then he decided he was busy on it. in the end, i was rushing about getting everything ready to put on his computer and totally forgot about your pic. it didnt help that we had to be out of the house for 5 as Daniel had an open evening to go to at a local 6th form.

i didnt even manage to get any of my overdone, completely dont work hdr's into the talk!
