A big weight lifted today. I handed in an ongoing project we had in September.

The basic principle was to be given 2 weekly briefs that we had to come up with a proposal saying how we would tackle it.

We then had to research the relevant topics/ideas and competently shoot it in whatever environment the brief required.

# 1 - To shoot a cover for the Observer Food Monthly magazine, taking into account the reader base & current news relating to the topic chosen
I chose to go with the healthy eating campaign scenario & as I based it on the August edition, i used bright, scrummy fruit.

# 2 - We had to shoot an image for a Penguin Book cover. We were given a book that was written in 1939 called At Swim Two Birds.
After researching the story, I figured it was based on a mythical place on the River Shannon where two currents meet. We had to use fuji film & dev it ourselves, then scan the image into photoshop & use a template from Penguin Books that could not be changed.
I had to consider the composition carefully to fit the template.

# 3 - We had to create an image for a CD cover of a band of our choice. Again, giving consideration to placement of text etc.
I listen to a series called 'Another Late Night' in which a particular band select their favourite chill out songs & create a compilation. They all use upside down lights in their covers so I did the same.

# 4 - We had to create an Environmental Portrait of a skill/craft/trade. It had to reflect the changing face of todays society.
I chose Nurses. As my Mum has been a nurse for 40 ish years - i have seen first hand how nursing has changed in recent times. The brief was to do a formal portrait sitting with something in the shot that tells the viewer what their profession is without a narrative.
This was the hardest of the series I had to do. When we arrived there was all sorts of problems from people having a cardiac arrest to relatives of someone that was very ill sitting in the room proposed for my shoot.
I grabbed what I could and ran with it. Not the greatest & i hadn't considered the possible 'cock-ups'. I will know for next time!

# 5 - This last one was called "My Favourite Coat'. I had to shoot my coat in a way that suited the style. I researched zillions of walking mags & put together my idea of a magazine ad.
I had to shoot these in the college studio with the tutor present. I shot all the macro shots on the same day & put them together in PS ready for printing.

Are you still awake???

Anyway - they are all up in 'exhibition form' on the wall at college where they will be marked next week. I filled 2½ A4 books of research, including how to exhibit this style of work.

So now i'm happy it's all in & i have exchanged it for a nice green slip (my receipt!) which i want to dance round.

Lets hope i pass it now.
