1 day to go, everything is laid out ready, does anyone have a trailer to carry it all.
The forecast is poor to worse for tomorrow and the wedding is in the most beautiful garden and surroundings but looks like we will be inside :(

So I have
2 cameras with batteries a plenty
3 Flashes
2 soft boxes
2 lighting stands
2 brolleys
Tripod
spare confetti
nifty 50
55 - 200
18 - 55

2 8gb cards
2 4gb cards

Everything I need I recon :top:

Wish us luck

I was a boyscout, always prepared! I know I probably wont and the good old yorkshire dales may take the brunt of the weather too.

Been trying to think of a good confetti shot, my thoughts are if there is a breeze or wind then confetti from behind the bride with the wind behind too.

Any thoughts?

And yes Jeni, we are going to put up some photo's the couple have given us rights to all the pics for our portfolio :top:

maybe, but i would be careful of the wind blowing the brides clothes too much. suppose it depends how strong the wind is more than anything.

lol look at me, giving advice on wedding photography lmao. youd probably be best to ignore me John

No that is a good point Jeni, had thought about posing it so the bride is sheltered a little by the party so it was not too windy, but I have a bucket load of confetti and this shot the Bride 'Wants' and is willing to retake till I get the shot :top:

Waterproof cover for the camera might be handy if it does require outdoor pic in the rain. :)

Good Luck mate, I will be doing one soon as a mate of mine has asked if I want to tag along on one of his.

Might become a regular thing if it goes well.

hi john confetti shots, well it depends on the setup etc, church weddings reg office, etc, 1st, does the venue allow confetti? as lots of places ban it, due to the mess thats created :(, if its allowed then how about the guests lined up either side of the front door, making a walk way with the B&G walking or running through ,towards you, with the guests throwing the confetti in the air!!

p.s lots and lots of confetti should be able to win over the wind LOL.

If the Church ban the confetti, suggest they do it at the reception

No the venue allows it, I contacted them last week and talked to a rather festive sounding young chap, he was all for everything I asked, the place has a balcony over looking York with the minster in the background too.

The building is a Ivy covered place, and at the time of the wedding the sun shines (if there is any) onto the main entrance. John Barry (composer of bond type music) and his family built and have owned it for generations and was one of the last places of this grandeur to be built in York, so I feel special that for my first wedding shoot I have a fantastic location.

The brides dress is celtic gothic, Black and white, the groom and other guests in Kilts.

Inside, twin stairwell chandeliers, Oak Beams, White marble floors and all the paint work is a cream colour too.

I am looking forward to this so much

Thanks for the words of encouragement

good luck john, make sure you make full use of all your memory cards, be bold, confidant and firm with the guests whilst remembering that you cant upset any of them.

make sure your 100% confidant in your camera as if your stood around fiddling it looks un professional, but at the same time dont rush, dont want to be forgetting any important pictures/angles.

with the guests trying to take pictures either side of you ask them if they would mind you taking the first few pics and then allow them to take theirs, this stops bride/groom and any other subjects looking at their friends cameras instead of yours. also for the larger group ones you can take twenty pics and in every one you will get a blinker, my advice is get everyones attention and ask them to blink on 3, then on three and a half you take the picture, blink free :)

make sure you get the an hour early to have a good explore of all the surrounding areas for best angles if you haven't done so already, take an assistant if possible, good for holding reflectors, flashes, bags etc. and above all else enjoy it. if you are relaxed and have fun and interact with everyone you got a good chance of further work from it (thats if you want further work from it).

hope my little experiances help, im not pretending to be a seasoned veteran or anything, but this is just my experiances so far :)

That's how the photographer did it at a wedding i went to last year. I got low down at the side of the bride and groom and got some great shots.

Good luck John

As I said Yesterday, went really well, day started not so good, Forecast for Showers turning to rain  whatever that means!

Arrived early to get a scope of a rather dimly lit and dark oak walled room with dark green paintwork and brown curtains: I had packed most of the stuff that I had, well everything except the backdrops, I went really prepared. The wedding coordinator was as festive as he sounded on the phone and incredibly accommodating.

I was allowed to set up 2 slave flashes to the right and left of the main ceremonial table, both with little softbox type attachments, that for this purpose I would recommend anyone to buy as they fit to any flash.

It rained as the bride came in, camera dry with a cover the Stew told me about, John not so dry as there was no cover and the Bride was late (women :D).

Ange was waiting inside camera at the ready tucked away in the corner ready to video the vows (We decided on this to use as part of a Slide/video show for the couple set to the music they had playing in the ceremony.

Had my checklist in my pocket, but had memorized the whole of it, so got every shot I needed plus extras.

I was firm with the Guests, and had them in control, and in fits of laughter with a few nicely placed Jokes, about taking the Bride and groom up to their room (needed to use it for the balcony shots).

Then a mishap! I fell off the roof! oh yes I have the bruise to show for it too  I had climbed over the balcony and onto a flat roof, which was a little high going up, on the way back down I thought I had stood on the floor and actually stood on a plant pot which fell over and I went with it! Luckily I had given the groom my camera.

Anyway got all the shots we needed, it stopped raining long enough to get the Balcony and Group shots, the confetti was ok, not the best but there was little room to do much of a shot with any sort of a nice backdrop, as the hotel only allowed it on the paved area. But I did my best.

I now have 6GB of photos to go through :top:

Thoroughly enjoyed it, and the best part got work from it, engagement party and a 80th Birthday!

Funny thing, I was listening to one of the guests saying something about going and getting the group shots she was doing taken professionally, and I felt a little downhearted about it, until she came over and said would you mind taking the group shots of us as we want them done professionally. Didn't realize they meant me.

Hey oh better get on with it, will post some shots up later
